It took the president of the ruling party more than eighteen months to realize that Mr. Julius Malema is behaving in a manner that is "alien" to the culture of the African National Congress (ANC). I wonder what Mr. Zuma finds so alien about the behaviour of Mr. Malema? I also wonder what motivates Mr. Zuma to react and react so swiftly to rebuke Mr. Malema for the latter’s "alien" behaviour. Is it alien to the culture of the ANC to show disrespect towards a white journalist? This question is necessitated by the fact that Mr. Malema has been showing disrespect to black journalist for far too long...

May I start by commending the men and women at Eskom, who have managed to tough it out under trying conditions. They have done us proud in a difficult environment that includes a dithering shareholder over many years; a shareholder unable to inject  sufficient capital into the business due to pressing and competing needs; a need to expand the business under an international economic meltdown; a large percentage of it’s clientele unable to pay adequately for electricity due to poverty and unemployment...

While the latest statements by the State President and the ANC’s NEC, condemning Mr. Julius Malema’s disgraceful conduct, should be appreciated, we however think that, these public statements are too late. For a long time, the senior leadership of the ANC has allowed Mr.Malema not just to be a law unto himself, but they also have a tendency to chastise him selectively. On numerous occasions, they have demonstrated their moral cowardice by allowing him to personally insult individuals, who are not just senior leaders of other parties but also old enough to be his parents, like former President Mbeki, Mr.Terror Lekota, Mrs.Hellen Zille and many others...
