Azapo’s response to Launch of New BCM Political Party
17 July 2008

PRESS RELEASE

The Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) would like to distance itself from the announcement of the launch of a new political party. We are not party to it.

As far as Azapo is concerned, unity discussions between itself (AZAPO), Socialist Party of Azania (SOPA) and the Black People’s Convention (BPC) are still in place. The Presidents of the three organizations publicly announced a pledge to unite the BCM organizations in December 2007. Negotiating teams from AZAPO, SOPA and BPC have reached agreement in almost ninety percent of the issues. The only sticky point outstanding was the issue of the name. A consensus was reached to resolve this matter at a unity congress of the three parties to be held in August.

The announcement by Ben Khoapa has put the spanner in the works for the BCM unity.
